Compile problem

Hi, could I ask for help? I follow this steps, and I don't know what is wrok with my debian 11 ( Linux status 5.10.0-8-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.10.46-4 (2021-08-03) x86_64 GNU/Linux), my VMware still dosen't work...
My VMWare version: VMware Workstation 15.5.7 build-17171714
Should I looking for modules for version 15.5.7?

Should I looking for modules for version 15.5.7?

Yes. Try this in your vmware-host-modules directory:

# Clean out any left over stuff from old compiles and similar
$ git clean -dffx

# Change to the correct branch for your VMware Workstation
$ git checkout workstation-15.5.7
Branch 'workstation-15.5.7' set up to track remote branch 'workstation-15.5.7' from 'origin'.
Switched to a new branch 'workstation-15.5.7'

# Compile
$ make

# Install
$ sudo make install

# Restart the vmware utilities on your system
$ sudo /etc/init.d/vmware start

In theory, that should work. 😄

Oh... the above will only work if you used git to grab the source code. There are different instructions if you downloaded the source code using a different method. If that's the case, just let us know... 😄

Hi, I did something else.

1. Uninstall VMWare Workstation.
2. Install by mistake VMWare player.
   I was very surprised because VMWare palyer works!
3. Unistall VMWare player.
4. Install VMWare Workstation now works!!

If reinstalling Workstation resolved the problem, it's likely that simple /etc/init.d/vmware restart would do the trick and it's another case of "modern" distribution not providing chkconfig command so that the script is not run on boot.

I checked /etc/init.d/vmware restart IT was failed. One more thing I have instlled VMWare player 16 and Workstation also 16 version.
Ofcourse I would like thank you for your time and help.

Yeah, the updated modules in the newer (version 16) of either VMware Player or Workstation probably helped too. 😄
