Why did mlx get coded in c++, not rust?

Why did mlx get coded in c++ was rust an option and why did that not pass the muster. Wanted to understand the idea behind the selection.

Just guessing here, but I assume it is the same reason Python C bindings are a thing and C++ has been used perennially (both long before rust): the efficiency you get from proximity to machine code.
