npm install in 2024 not working

How do you "npm install" it on a modern system ?

Config:

• Ubuntu 22.04
• tried many versions of nodejs (10, 18, 20),
• different versions of npm
• added C++17 flags to npm command, ...

There is always a different error during build with all variants tried

Could you please specify a system (or dockerfile) that can use moniel ?
Or update it so it can be installed on current systems ?

Found a configuration under which moniel works:

• Ubuntu 18.04
• nvm 0.33.11
• node 8.16.2
• npm 6.4.1
• apt install libgconf-2-4 git libcanberra-gtk-module libcanberra-gtk3-module
