Pinch zoom does not work on Android chrome

The example in https://github.com/modestmaps/modestmaps-js/tree/master/examples/touch does not work on Android Chrome. At least not on the Samsung devices I have used for testing. Works perfectly on desktop and on iOS devices.
When trying to pinch zoom the map disappears.
Versions of chrome used when testing: v28 and v44
