Connection error against a localhost ejabberd

Hi all 👋

I'm trying out XMPP again (afger many decades) and I have a localhost ejabberd server running like so:

$ docker run -i -t--name ejabberd -p 5222:5222 ejabberd/ecs

I've downloaded the Monal beta for macOS but I am unable to connect to the server.

The error is ratheropaquee and vauge, all I see on the server-side is:

I guess your local server does not have a valid TLS certificate.

If this is the case, why doesn't the error tell me this? Can we not state that there was a "Certificate error" and provide the user an option to do something about it? Either accept it anyway for example?

Sorry I don't understand your response.

No, we don't support self-signed or expired certificates. And we don't want to in the future. We are open for PRs improving our error messages / error handling.
