Run yt-dlp as different user

Recently yt-dlp made javascript runtime mandatory for youtube. But this means I need to allow youtube to run code on my computer. As a safety precaution I would like to limit what that process can do.

For downloading files I can just /usr/bin/su -c 'yt-dlp "video-url-here"' otheruser
but for streaming it doesn't work. Mpv locates the yt-dlp executable, and then executes it the way it wants (as the current user).

But yt-dlp was already running youtube's javascript before Deno.

Was it? I was under the impression that it was parsing and pulling the information from the code without actually running it. How would it even been able to run the code without a javascript runtime installed?

I will try the ytdl_path parameter, but the documentation makes it seem like it wouldn't work with a wrapper script.

Yes, it used a NIH'd Javascript interpreter until that become too hard to maintain.

Why wouldn't a wrapper script work? Just be sure to pass all the arguments to yt-dlp.

Actually it would be good idea to add example like that to documentant. Using bubblewrap can be good idea to run yt-dlp.

I dunno why it wouldn't work. But I tried it, and it worked.
