Forking with submodules

Hey folks,

I'm hoping to play around with #4926 for the Harmony, but I ran into this forking bug as I was working through the setup. What's the best way to fix this? Should I fork all of the repos or update the .gitmodules to absolute URLs or something else? I anticipate ~all of the work will be directly in MuditaOS rather than a submodule.
