Trouble understanding how to use the tool

Hope you are doing well!
First of all, huge thanks for developing MQT, it really is very useful for me to understand how quantum algorithms are made and compiled.

I looked a bit at QMAP, and it said in the documentation that "the compiler can be used to compile the circuit from above. The output is in the .naviz format that can be read by the MQT NAViz tool. This tool allows visualizing the resulting quantum computation.". However, there are no example resources on how to do that.

I tried importing a .na file on this link consisting of basic operations in the same format as the output of a QMAP compiler but I get a 'Failed to import' error.

Then, I saw that the naviz tool was still under construction. I was wondering when will be the first release, and if some examples on how to use it would be added anytime soon ?

We are currently in the process of getting a first mqt-naviz release out that will definitely include documentation. We just haven't gotten around to set that up yet.

I am sure @FloezeTv can comment a little bit more on this, but, in essence, the way you tried to use the tool is exactly how it is supposed to be used.
Would you mind pasting you .na file here so that we can check what might be the issue here?
It might be that the library here is not yet perfectly compatible with the output format produced by QMAP 3.1+.

thank you for trying out mqt-naviz.
Indeed, the documentation is a bit sparse; we are working to include more documentation in the next releases.

The code from your linked documentation is in the mqt-naviz file format (.naviz), therefore it does not need to be imported but can directly be opened (or pasted into the mqt-naviz main window).
In this case, mqt-naviz successfully loads the input, but then hits #104.
I will start working on a fix for #104, after which mqt-naviz should successfully visualize the input.

The rendering is a bit weird when I use default architecture given in the QMAP tutorial:

I assume it has to do with the 'machine' style? Do you have resources on how to provide a custom machine? (edit: am I supposed to import a file like this one?)

Furthermore, in the QMAP tutorial they transpile their circuit to include only hardware-native operations (see figure below) by manually writing down the transpiled circuit. Are there any tools available to do it by running a script?

Would it also be possible to run the visualisation tool locally on my machine? By cloning the repository?

Also (last question I promise ^^), out of curiosity, do you have any idea on when the tool will be fully available?

Thank you for the active interest, and sorry for the delay. I try to answer your questions in order:

1. How to use the same machine configuration in MQT NAViz as in MQT QMAP?
   Very good question since we were facing the same problem already. Hence, there was already a function within the C++ library capable of exactly this task. PR 719 in QMAP will now expose this functionality also to Python. Then you can save the machine configuration in the format that MQT NAViz requires and open or import this configuration to MQT NAViz. Then the animation should not look odd anymore.

2. Is there a script to compile to the native gate set?
   The example is actually hand-crafted w/o any script. However, for our evaluations we use an adaption of the script available at https://github.com/natalianottingham/globalgatecompiler .

3. Can the visualization run locally?
   Yes, of course. You just need to follow the installation instructions here and then you can run the tool locally. Please note, that the referenced instruction belong to PR 📝 Write docs #103 and are not merged to main yet. So the link will not point to the latest version once the PR is merged.

4. When will we release the tool?
   We plan to launch the application soon in late summer or autumn.
