In lots of orchestral score, particularly parts and those for strings, there will be divisi written across multiple staves. This could be as little as divisi a 2 (perhaps with a solo and gli altri) or up to even divisi a 7. Particularly in the case of divisi for three voices or more, it is useful to have them written on seperate staves to aid legibility, but is still often used even for only two.
Support to create these extra staves as 'sub-instruments' of a single instrument would be very useful. It would save the use of a new instrument and using cutout staves for the empty bars. It would also allow bracketing of the divisi lines. The option to put the label for a 2
or whatever the number at the side of the bracket (like where the instrument name usually goes) would also be handy.
Example from Bernstein's Symphonic Dances.
Another example from Symphonic Dances.
A more complex example from Higdon's Concerto for Orchestra.
