Xonora - A Native iOS Client for Music Assistant (Alpha)

Hi everyone! 👋

I've been working on a passion project called Xonora, a fully native iOS app for Music Assistant.

My goal was to build something fast and fluid that doesn't rely on web views. It connects directly to your MA server and uses the Sendspin protocol to stream high-quality audio directly
to your iPhone.

Current Features (Alpha):

• 🚀 Native SwiftUI: Fast and smooth performance.
• 🔊 Sendspin Streaming: Low-latency audio streaming (supports secure ports too).
• 🚗 CarPlay Support: Browse and play safely while driving.
• 📂 Library & Search: Full access to your artists, albums, and playlists.
• 💾 Local Caching: Images and metadata are cached for speed.

I've released an Alpha .ipa on GitHub for anyone comfortable with sideloading (AltStore, Sideloadly, etc.). I'd love to get your feedback on performance and design.

Note: This is an early alpha. Expect some bugs and rough edges, especially with background playback, but the core streaming works great!

Your app looks nice so far. And you made some progress.

But did you know that there is already a iOS app be developed? https://github.com/music-assistant/kmp-client-app
It does not make sense to have several apps to do the same. So may get in contact with @formatBCE to merge your knowledge and progress.
I am sure we will all benefit from two developers developing together instead of two developers developing two apps.

Hey! The KMP app would definitely benefit from presence of native iOS developer. Although I understand if you don't want to get into this. :)

Hi there!,
I came across KMP client before I started developing Xonora. The thing is, I am not very experienced with Kotlin, so I started with swift. I will try to help out, after I get Xonora in a stable state. :D

Nice, thanks for the answer!
KMP needs native dev on iOS side, because basically all the parts that need to be written are platform-specific like playing the stream, or showing the media notification and making sure the system doesn't "optimize" (kill) the app. :)

Xonora is great, after all, it can be used through TestFlight, while the official iOS client can't be tried at all, let alone being listed on the App Store. Thanks to the author of Xonora for providing another option, and I also hope the official iOS client puts in more effort.

Yup hopefully we will get that soon. It's in active development, basically early stages.
