Why was this theme not selected as the default Ubuntu theme ???!!!

This is an amazing theme!!!

Your version of "Ubuntu Orange" is just right.

(My only nit-pick might be that the "Canonical Aubergine" should be used sparingly, and most widgets, such as check boxes, radio buttons, sliders, should also use the orange color? But this is only because Canonical didn't use Aubergine for widgets in the original the Unity theme, and it makes the UI look more cohesive).

I presume you used https://design.ubuntu.com/brand/colour-palette/ when designing this theme?

The final touch would be matching icons! I suggest modifying the Papirus theme folder icons to use the exact same orange color as you have selected for this theme. I think this can be achieved by forking: https://github.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-folders.
