I have spent the last week gathering info from all our disparate tracking methods and have gotten our Netbox database to be close to current reality. This has been a game changer for the management of our infrastructure. One question I have is how deep does the global search reach?
For instance, when I use the global search on an IP address, the IP address record is returned as expected. But what I kinda expected is that any object associated with that IP address would also be listed. Like devices, virtual machines, VPN tunnels, FHRP groups, etc.
The reason I ask is that I have a large set of users that have read-only access to help find objects and associations in the lab and virtual environments. It would be nice if they could locate things quickly through the global search and not have to click multiple levels of objects knowing what to look for.
Also, some relationships are not easy to find without knowing about them. For instance, I've defined a VRRP group for a Kubernetes VIP address. For the virtual machines associated with that VRRP group, the only way to see that relationship is to go down to the interface level to see the FHRP Group field. And if that field has not been added to interface table shown, it might go unnoticed. It would be nice if that info were on the device/VM level similar to how the primary IP address is displayed. Devices have a management section where that could go, but for VMs it's displayed in the first info box. That's why I was asking about that info in the global search.
