Having thought a little. Maybe I just have a different idea in mind:

Hi BuJo, Thanks for taking the time to write this up (and for including the ER diagram) — it makes the underlying question really clear. After reading through the feature docs and the original FR, my takeaway is that NetBox is now intentionally modeling a few different “who/what” dimensions that can overlap in the real world, but aren’t the same thing:
That framing also explains a few of your observations:
A concrete example (works for an enterprise or an MSP):
In that setup:

I'm wondering what separates the
Ownerconcept fromUsersandContacts.Previously I modeled "administrative ownership" by assigning a
Contactwith a specialContact Role. Now having theOwnerconcept, that makes the assignment more "immediate", however I'm not getting fully what separates theOwnerfrom the other Models.E.g. a
Device:erDiagram User Tenant Contact ContactRole ContactAssignment Device Owner ContactAssignment ||--|{ Device : assigned_to Contact ||--|{ ContactAssignment : has_contact ContactRole ||--|| ContactAssignment : has_role Device ||--o{ Tenant : belongs_to ContactAssignment ||--|{ Tenant : assigned_to Device ||--|| Owner : owned_by Tenant ||--|| Owner : owned_by Owner ||--o{ User : authenticated_by Owner { string name } Contact { string name } User { string name }So, I'm a little unsure on how to use the new concept.
Observations:
Ownerconcept enables linking aUserwhich can log in to NetBox to aDevice(or other entities)Tenantcan (tentatively) linkContacts to anOwnerUser, except via the E-Mail fieldOwneris not first and last name, but only name, is it not for names of people?TenantandContactare in the Organizational section,OwnerandUserare in the Administrational sectionUnsure if I have missed something, which links those two concept with one another, or if I simply misunderstood the contacts, or (given that it's a new concept) that there's simply a missing link.
Does anyone have a "way of doing things"?
Is it a distinction of "use the organizational entities when talking about who physically owns a device and use the administrational entities when talking about who is in charge of maintaining the NetBox information for that device"?
