Proposed functionality
Good morning,
I work in the telecom/utility space where we have modular chassis that can have multiple modules with different power draw ratings. Netbox currently has a cumbersome way of tracking power on modules by requiring power outlets and power sources. I have created a temporary mechanism of calculating the total device power draw with the use of custom fields and an external calculator, however, it would be beneficial if we could specify the maximum and typical power draw per module and then have a total calculated for use with the actual device power supply.
This is generally for modules that connect to a device via the backplane.
This issue was brought up before, however, was closed as stale.
#12671
Use case
This functionality allows for users to calculate the total device power of modular chassis easily without the use of external tooling. This is useful for planning how large of fuses to use in scenarios where power is limited and an exact fuse size is needed.
