Hi H.Peter and others,
I just wanted to say that RDOFF is not dead -- I forked it, together with NASM's preprocessor (v2.14.2) into a new project for the computer I'm creating from scratch: GateMate System/359. RDOFF is the main object/executable format there.
Soon I will be opening the repository at: https://gitlab.com/gatemate/s359
It's an IBM S/360 inspired architecture, with full channel I/O (video, keyboard, PSRAM, comm via UART etc), but little-endian and with many improvements to my taste :)
RadiOS, which was the main "user" of RDOFF in 2000..2010, will be ported there too (as "OS/359" of course). Perhaps I'll add also LCC with J.Coffman's heavily modified NASM backend.
