Confused about using NextAuth for App Router

What is the improvement or update you wish to see?

Hey everyone , I'm new to React and NextAuth. Seems like the current Next js uses App router so for backend we do app/api and not pages . However docs in NextAuth still use pages/auth and i'm confused how to use it for current Next version.

There's a link suggesting for new App Router for initialization but even that page seems to not have fully updated docs.

It would be nice if the docs are separate for app router and pages one

There are two docs sites, which can be confusing:

• NextAuth (legacy) – https://next-auth.js.org/getting-started/example
  Focused on the old Pages Router (pages/api/auth), not fully updated for App Router.

• Auth.js (new) – https://authjs.dev/getting-started/installation?framework=Next.js
  The evolution of NextAuth, actively maintained, shows setup with the App Router (app/api/auth/[...nextauth]/route.ts).

NextAuth = old name
Auth.js = new name

Auth.js is now part of Better Auth. I suggest directly using Better Auth for new projects. Existing projects can still use Auth.js, but consider migration to Better Auth.
