I'm working on a step challenge app where every 15 000 steps a tree is planted.

Do you know if there is a way to detect when someone uses your hack ?
It's a problem for us because when someone cheats in a challenge, it discourages other participants.

Hi! Yes there might be a way to filter the HealthKit data by source, to only select specific ones: for example the entires added by an Apple Watch or the iPhone's sensor. But that might be complicated because some people might use a device other than an Apple Watch to count their steps (e.g.: Fitbit) so it would be tedious to keep a record of every existing device in the world.

In my opinion, it's not possible to completely eliminate hacking attempts for your app, but you can minimise it to only advanced users

You are right on 50 000 users, we only had the problem with two users.
The thing is that a single cheater can ruin the challenge of an entire company.

I may had a checker that raise warnings when exotic steps providers are detected and contact the participant if we do receive those kind of alert.
