Asking about the implicit message example

Hi, newbie to CIP and EIP.
In the implicit messaging example, other than specifying the connection parameters themselves, I have a few questions and would love some insight:
1. How do you specify what do data will be coming from the target?
2. What exactly is the data coming back, in the example?

Say I want some instance of a parameter object, how can I specify that?
