No suggestions without starting to type

Without typing anything there are no available suggestions for autocompletion but in other languages all available symbols are usually listed. Is this expected behavior?

One thing that comes to my mind is that it will be highly annoying to have suggestions thrown when one is simply navigating the code. I face this all time with the LLM assistants. But if it is possible to guess the context and trigger auto-complete, I am open to have this as an option. Contributions are welcome!

Suggestions should only be created after starting to type or hitting control + . by default. The autocompletions that LLMs provide is inline and not through this suggestions ui. Since this already works once you type a single character, I'm not sure if this is a nixd problem or a problem with the extension. Do you have any ideas?

Your inital comment was to show suggestions without typing anything. That is not the case with most language LSPs. You type few keywords to specify the intent.

Most languages I use support it without intent, it just displays tokens in the document or options available.

Do I need to update some settings? I am testing it with the *.ts files but not seeing any completions.

I'm not sure but these are the only settings I've modified. I just hit control + space in basically any file and I get suggestions.

Ok, that is shortcut for requesting completions and I can do that for nix files also

The completions are fetched from the LSP server used.

That isn't from the LSP, it's the show words setting that I have turned off. It's just random words that VSCode finds relevant to your project.

Encountered the same problem and did some digging, I believe this is an issue with nixd rather than the vscode extension, nix-community/nixd#653
Should be fixed with this pull request but no progress on that for some time
nix-community/nixd#698
