Use case: Merging 2 Organisations

Hello Community,

I just want to make sure that i understood the possibilities of the tool right.

Our current use case is that our company is merged with another company that already has a Azure DevOps Service Organisation with several Projects with a lot of work items. It is now planned that our own work items are merge into the existing organisation into a new project. So i assume there will be several items with the same internal IDs. I assume that the ID is changed on our own work items during the migration if the ID is already in use by a work item of the already existing projects. Will we still be able to keep the linking between work items and code? Since we dont want to lose connection between code and work items.

As far as i understand the tool through the documentation it is possible, right?

All work items created on the new system will get a new ID. There is no way to set this value.

• We fix the link between the Git Repos and the Work item IF the git repos are migrated first.
