Does "Board Column" value migrate with the work item?

As the title suggest; is anyone aware if the board column value follows the work item when you run a migration?
For instance if two columns are active in value will the work item be placed in the "correct" column same column as it was in source?
From experience, I am actually somewhat unsure what the result is, but I believe the Board Column value follows the work item upon migration, but I am not currently able to verify.
