Field Mapping for Identities

I am attempting to do a mapping of a custom identity field from source to target but the mapping doesnt seem to work. I am just using the basic FieldtoFieldMapConfig and its working for all of the mappings except for identities, is this not functional for Identities or is there another field map I should be using?

1. it depends on how you have it configured
2. We have a UserMapper out of the box that would be better to use.
