Geodesic Paths between points of faces

Hi!

I have just recently discovered the project and so far I am loving it. I am trying to replicate this paper https://doi.org/10.1145/3658158 but I need to get a geodesic path between points that might lie on faces, not only vertices. Is there a way of doing that within the scope of the library?

Hi! There's no built-in function to do that in this library right now.

There is support for geodesics between arbitrary face points in the underlying C++ library, https://github.com/nmwsharp/geometry-central/blob/master/include/geometrycentral/surface/exact_geodesics.h but it is not exposed in these python bindings yet.

One common "trick" is to temporarily insert an additional vertex inside the faces, compute a geodesic between those vertices, then return to the original mesh. However that might not be the most convenient strategy for re-implementing that paper.

did the „trick“ of temporarily inserting a vertex work out in your implementation?

I managed to implement that part using meshlibs geodesic solver.
