Passing custom param used by a plugin to Swiper

So I created a custom plugin with a new param storageRef:

const myPlugin = {
  name: "myPlugin",
  params: {
    storageRef: null,
  },
  on: {
  }
}

SwiperCore.use([myPlugin]);

And then in the template the storageRef remains null regardless of what the value is:

  <swiper :storageRef="storageRef"
  </swiper>
</template>

The motivation behind this is to render a large gallery using virtual slides and lazily load required images only.

What am I doing wrong? How do I pass this custom param set in Vue setup function. Thanks!
