Is this module meant to be used with HTTP Basic Auth?

I've been trying to get this module working with a scala backend which provides a HTTP Basic Auth implementation on a different domain — with SameSite=None Secure. I need to do things like this to login:

and on a simple reload I need to login again. So I'm not sure if this module is only meant to be used with providers with a JSON based interface or if I'm doing something terribly wrong...
