Add some delay before the diagnostic warning appears?

Question:

Is there a way to add some delay before the diagnostic is added as virtual text?

My issue:

I use the built-in trail_space to show me diagnostics for the extra spaces and it works fine, the only issue is, sometimes when I enter new lines some spaces are added automatically to match the indentation of line above.

And as soon as I hit <esc> to leave InsertMode, I see the built-in flashing real quickly in the screen a diagnostic warning about the trail space.. but half second later it removes the diagnostic warning:

ps: It's not consistent, sometimes it shows the warning and sometimes it doesn't.

Just noticed it seems to toggle itself on / off as I enter or leave insert mode .. this might explain this kind of "flickering" behavior.

Now another thing showed up: enabling update_in_insert the trailing warning keeps having the same behavior quickly showing on my screen as I leave insert mode and disappearing half a second later.

Ok removed the virtual text for trailing spaces. Looking way better now, I have the diagnostic and no annoying "flash messages".
