Possible to query tasks only from files with certain tags [in frontmatter]?

I have a number of files that have all been tagged #foo assigned to them. Is there a way to query for all tasks that come from any file tagged #foo ?

I was able to see how I could search by tag, but that seemed to require me to tag each individual task with #foo as opposed to the file the task was found in.

@nateswart: It depends on what you mean by having "assigned" the #foo tag to some of your notes.

Is the #foo tag part of the title of each note, OR
Are your tasks in these notes are organized in lists under headers that include the #foo tag?

-- if so, then the following query will display the tasks from those notes:

tasks
filepath includes #foo
```

But if these notes only include the #foo tag somewhere else within their contents, then Tasks does not provide a way to query only the tasks that those notes contain.

Unfortunately no, it's not part of the title. I have the tag in the standard frontmatter of the file like this:

---
publish: false
aliases:
 - File Name
tags:
 - 🏷/some_tag
 - 🏢/companyA
---

in this case, I was hoping I could filter like this:

tasks
path includes #🏢/companyA

@nateswart: In that case, I don't think there's a Tasks-only solution.

If you aren't averse to installing and learning to use an additional plugin, I believe that Dataview provides the means to query Tasks' tasks the way you want.

I too would love this feature.

My use case is that I have tasks lists for work and lists for home. And lists for other side projects. I keep them separated with tags in the first line of the files.
Most of these files have like 20 to 100 tasks in them, adding the tag to every task row just feels wrong.

My current workaround is by using headers but that disconnects it from my tag views.. Unfortunately I can't seem to get placing the tag in the header and querying that directly to work.

This is not currently possible in Tasks directly, but we can get dataview to do the search for us and create a Tasks query.

You need to enable 'Enable JavaScript Queries' in Dataview's settings.

Note that this finds all tasks where the tag is present anywhere in the file, not just in the frontmatter.

Something like:

filter by function task.file.tags.include('todo')
