Native installation fails on Ubuntu 22.04 due to unmet dependency #491

@arunimakanavu

Description

@arunimakanavu

sudo apt-get install intel-dlstreamer

Summary

The native installation instructions for Ubuntu 22.04 lead to an unresolvable package dependency error when installing intel-dlstreamer via apt. Even on a clean system following the documented steps, the installation fails due to a version mismatch in the libva2 dependency.

Steps followed (as per documentation)

The installation was attempted according to the Ubuntu installation guide, using the standard package installation method:

sudo apt-get install intel-dlstreamer

Observed behavior

The installation fails with unmet dependencies:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 intel-dlstreamer : Depends: libva2 (>= 2.21.0.1) but 2.20.0.2-77~u22.04 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Analysis

On Ubuntu 22.04, the available libva2 package version is:

  • libva2 2.20.0.2-77~u22.04

However, intel-dlstreamer explicitly depends on:

  • libva2 >= 2.21.0.1

This dependency cannot be satisfied using the standard Ubuntu 22.04 repositories, which makes the native installation path unusable as documented.

Environment

  • OS: Ubuntu 22.04
  • Installation method: Native (APT)
  • Package: intel-dlstreamer
