3.0 Release Highlights
Released: 25th April 2025
Edge Orchestrator is the primary product within the Edge Manageability Framework
and
brings the ease of cloud-native deployment, orchestration, and management to
edge environments,
at scale.
Edge Orchestrator enables you to securely onboard and provision remote
edge devices to a central management plane, orchestrate Kubernetes clusters and
applications across distributed edge, at scale. Edge Node software provides the
profiles of infrastructure software configurations that get provisioned onto an
onboarded node.
Key Highlights of the release include, but not limited to:
management plane, that makes it easy to manage lifecycle of
distributed edge infrastructure – from maintenance to upgrades.
provide flexibility to onboard for a range of existing as well as new
devices.
encryption, secure communications, and so on to help with zero trust security
needs at the edge.
locations, enabling IT teams to have better visibility into the
distributed edge infrastructure, from a single dashboard.
centralized identity and access management for enhanced project and
organization level isolation.
manage applications via an application orchestrator through policies defined
by the user.
interconnects that can help build a fully automated pipeline such as those
required for MLOps.
as well as Edge Microvisor Toolkit immutable container host, enabling
deployment of modern AI workloads in containers or virtual machines.
of the computing power from integrated and discrete Intel® Arc™ Graphics
central view into all the nodes, clusters, and applications running across
the distributed edge infrastructure.
dashboards to look at the metrics for resource utilization, and so on,
enabling
teams to improve operational efficiency.
Intel® Core™ Ultra, to Intel® Xeon®, Intel® Arc™ Graphics, and Intel®
Ethernet Network Adapters that serves the diverse and heterogenous compute
requirements at the edge.
For a detailed list of features, see the complete release notes.
The software comprises of the following key components:
Edge Node Agents: A set of agents that run on the edge nodes as OS level agents.
They communicate with the services running in the Edge Orchestrator and provide a
consistent interface for the edge node software. Read more about [See Documentation].
Edge Infrastructure Manager: Policy based secure life cycle management
of a fleet of edge nodes/devices at scale, spread across distributed locations
allowing onboarding, provisioning, inventory management, upgrades and more.
Read more about Edge Infrastructure Manager.
Edge Cluster Orchestrator: A lightweight multi-cluster orchestrator based
the Cluster API (CAPI) standard designed to automate the deployment and
lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters at scale across distributed
edges, providing centralized monitoring and access control.
Read more about Edge Cluster Orchestrator.
Edge Application Orchestrator: Offers customers the ability to easily
package, deploy and monitor cloud-native applications at scale across
distributed edges. Read more about Edge Application Orchestrator.
User Interface: The web user interface for the Edge Orchestrator, allowing
the user to manage most of the features of the product in an intuitive,
visual, manner without having to trigger a series of APIs individually.
Observability: A modular observability stack that provides visibility into
the health and performance of the system, including logging, reporting,
alerts, and SRE data from Edge Orchestrator components and Edge Nodes.
Read more about Observability.
Platform Services: A collection of services that support the deployment
and management of the Edge Orchestrator, including Identity and Access
management, multitenancy management, ingress route configuration, secrets
and certificate management, cloud and on-prem infrastructure life-cycle
management and more. Read more about Platform Services.
