Ensure that AC_CANONICAL_[HOST|TARGET] is invoked before AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE to avoid a warning during autogen.pl. Since that re-ordering moved some emitted output titles, move the "check directories for spaces" tests into the "Initialization, setup" section. This is effectively a cosmetic change.
