Description

This issue tracks the lifecycle of the ottl.contexts.enableOTelColContext feature gate, which enables the otelcol context in OTTL to allow access to client request metadata and other collector-specific information.

The feature was introduced in #41879.

Graduation Plan

• Alpha (Current): Feature is disabled by default.
• Beta: Feature is enabled by default, but can be disabled via the gate.
• Stable/Removed: Feature is always enabled, and the feature gate code is removed.

Feedback Needed

We are looking for feedback on:

• Ease of use of the otelcol context paths (e.g., otelcol.client.metadata).
• Any performance or security concerns when accessing request metadata.
• Missing metadata fields that should be exposed.
