Edge-based Security Telemetry with Prometheus Export – OpenTelemetry Interop?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working with a lightweight security and monitoring tool that’s designed for resource-constrained devices across both Linux and Windows environments — including embedded systems, industrial gateways, and edge nodes.

The solution is called MicroAI Security & Monitoring. It provides real-time visibility into system behavior and potential threats, and it’s optimized for environments where traditional SIEM agents or heavyweight collectors aren’t feasible.

Key features:

• Captures system metrics, anomalies, user actions, and file integrity events
• Exposes metrics in a Prometheus-compatible format
• Includes a Grafana dashboard template for easy visualization
• Supports both Linux and Windows, making it well-suited for hybrid infrastructure

I’m currently exploring how to best integrate this kind of telemetry into an OpenTelemetry pipeline, and specifically:

• Approaches to bridge Prometheus-exported metrics from edge agents into the OpenTelemetry Collector
• Best practices for handling low-resource, distributed telemetry sources
• Combining operational and security metrics under a single observability layer

Has anyone tackled something similar — especially in the context of edge monitoring or mixed-OS environments?
