Use of OTEL exporter and multi-instance collector installations

We are considering to build a KEDA OpenTelemetry Collector scaler but are looking if it is feasible.

As part of that conversation, an idea is to use the OTEL gRPC/HTTP exporter to get metric information. However, we are wondering what that interaction looks like in a multi-instance collector installation? Do we have to query every instance or how would that work?
