Instrumentation for Openai responses

Describe the bug

im unable to export any openai related spans in java. I can confirm my setup is working as i can see manually exported spans, but there does not seem to be any spans directly related to openai java usage.

Steps to reproduce

Follow instructions from the OpenAI instrumetnation README :https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-java-instrumentation/blob/main/instrumentation/openai/openai-java-1.1/library/README.md

Expected behavior

I am expecting to see OpenAI spans in my console/otlp backend

Actual behavior

Do not see any spans at all related to Openai calls.

Javaagent or library instrumentation version

v2.20.1

Environment

JDK: Oracle Java SE 25.0.0 (LTS), HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM (build 25+37-LTS-3491)
OS: macOS Darwin 24.3.0 (ARM64, Kernel xnu-11215.81.4~3)

we have tests for this library that seem to be working, could you provide a runnable reproducer that demonstrates how you are using it?

above is the code I am using. Just a simple OpenAI call, wrapped with the OpenAITelemetry object

Please let me know if this code is incorrect, or Im going about this in a wrong way

openai instrumentation currently works with chat and embeddings but not responses. cc @anuraaga
