Providing exporter in code

What's the meaning of this log message?

Exporter "otlp" requested through environment variable is unavailable.

Why am I seeing it? I'm providing the exporter in code (not via env variables). OTEL_TRACES_EXPORTER is undefined.

Would you mind checking if your environment variable OTEL_TRACES_EXPORTER (NOT the JavaScript variable) is set with any values?

e.g. in your shell:

$ export
...here prints all the environment variables...

No environment variable starting with OTEL_ is set. I double checked.

I do receive traces in Jaeger. However, since the update of OTEL (from pre v1.x) I'm getting incomplete traces pretty consistently (always the same spans are missing). Not sure if that is related to this problem.

Thanks! Could this explain incomplete traces? Jaeger reports invalid parent span ids.
