Huge +1 to this. Would use it more. I think it's better to write this to a forum though: https://community.openai.com/ |

OpenAI has released Codex as an open‑source project, and I’d like to raise a point for discussion:
ChatGPT Plus (US$ 20/month) gives access to the o3 and o4‑mini models, whereas API usage—to run the Codex CLI—is billed per token. If I were to replicate on the terminal the same usage volume I have today in ChatGPT for Mac, I would easily end up spending around US$ 40 per month on tokens alone.
Between the cost of the Plus plan and the Pro plan (US$ 200/month), it would make sense to introduce an intermediate tier—something like “Developer” (renaming the current Pro to “Signature/Black/Unlimited” and calling this one Pro)—that retains chat access while also including a monthly token quota and, for example, a slow mode.
