[QUESTION] Providing MCP Server for realtime sessions

Hi devs,

Moving from Typescript agent library where I was able to provide a remote MCP server in the tools option of a RealtimeAgent.

From what I see with the .NET sdk, the only available option is to do function calling by providing tools definition using RealtimeClient.StartConversationSessionAsync.

Is there something I'm missing ? How can I setup a RealtimeSession that will use my MCP server ?

Hi @thomasnappee. Thank you for reaching out and for your inquiry. The Realtime feature in the client is still based on the beta API, which did not support MCP tools, only function calls. To use an MCP server with the tool calls, you'd apply the technique demonstrated in the chat_with_mcp sample which registers a local function that manages the MCP interactions.

Once the client adopts the stable Realtime API, a direct MCP tool will be available. Currently, the REST API spec used for client generation has not yet transitioned. Once a new drop of the spec with Realtime stable is published for us to integrate, the client will adopt the new version.
