Installation error: KeyError '__version__' when installing with pip on Python 3.13 #2586

Hi team 👋,

I’m running into an installation error when trying to install openai-whisper.

When running:

pip install -U openai-whisper

I get:

🔧 Environment

- OS: WSL 
- Python: 3.13
- Pip: 25.0.1
- Command: pip install -U openai-whisper

This works with 3.13 until pypi version is updated
pip install git+https://github.com/openai/whisper.git

Edit: pypi version was updated and installs successfully now

Yeah, this is a breaking bug. How is this coming along? Anyone need information to diagnose it? I cannot install Whisper at all, and found out about this while Kdenlive was trying to install it for its plugin. It is replicatable on base install of python 3.13.3

This is fixed in the main branch; it just needs to be included in an official release to PyPI.
