Is it possible to install Whisper without dependencies that use a GPU?

I'm running pip install openai-whisper on a system without an nVidia GPU. I'm seeing gigabytes of nvidia-* packages being downloaded. Is it possible to:

1. run whisper without these dependencies?
2. install openai-whisper without these dependencies?

That would save me time and allow me to install on a system with limited local storage.

Hi, yeah I remember I had this problem too, in 2023 when I was starting out. The answer to both questions is YES :D

1. Use the CUDA_VISIBLE_DEVICES=-1 environment variable setting
2. See this link ("Light installation for cpu"), it's for whisper-timestamped but it should work for the original whisper too.

Thank you for responding. I found a comparison (http-only link) between openai-whisper and whisper.cpp for CPU-only performance. I installed whisper.cpp after seeing that.
