Thumbnail editor is confusing

We found that the thumbnail editor somewhat confuses users. Especially, if you have multiple streams and want to select the preview images, there are too many buttons. It's also not necessarily immediately clear what the current thumbnail or the video preview is.

By the bye, if you don't know the big images here are not so obviously the video streams, while the small ones are the currently set thumbnails.

Note: Long term, we may want to have just one preview image. For more information, see the discussion about the new data structures. But that's out of scope for this issue.

Some random ideas:

• Can we have fewer buttons?
• We need to prevent users from mixing up player and preview image
• Would it make sense for this to be a wizard?

+1 and there are already some configuration options in the editor to only have one.

The idea was to create simple and effiicient actions for the user.
The user chooses an action for only one of the available tracks. Either uploading an image directly or after clicking generate button for one track the user is redirected to a new page where the timeline is available and a frame can be selected.
For further information how to use the generate frame action the user can hover over the button.

This is with thumbnail.simpleMode = true (only one thumbnail). I have no screenshot for a dual video example, but there is always only one upload area.

Good to know that there is a simpleMode ^^..
The design in the simple mode could be the same as in the prototype proposed, maybe in one page and not redirecting to a new page after clicking on Generate..

That looks very reasonable to me!

It does lose the "Use for all tracks" and "Discard" functionality though. Which is totally fine if no one needs this functionality, but we should make sure of that first.
