Summary

After adding three additional workqueues to the existing workqueues in the Uganda country configuration, the application fails to load workqueues in the server environment with an HTTP 414 – URI Too Long error.
As a result, the UI shows a JSON parsing error and workqueues do not load. This issue does not occur in the local environment.

This issue started after adding 3 new workqueues on top of the existing workqueues in the Uganda country configuration.

Requirement

When loading workqueues after login:

• The system should successfully fetch workqueue counts and data.
• Adding additional workqueues should not cause API failures.
• API requests should remain within URL length limits.
• The UI should load workqueues correctly in both local and server environments.

Current Behaviour

• After login, when the system attempts to load workqueues:

  • The API call to workqueue.count fails with HTTP 414 – URI Too Long.
  • The request URL becomes very long because workqueue queries are encoded into the URL.

• The server responds with an HTML error page.

• Because of this:

  • Workqueue counts are not loaded.
  • The application shows an error screen.

• This behaviour is observed only in the server environment, not locally.

Observed API Call

Example failing request:

GET /api/events/workqueue.count?input=<very long encoded query>

The encoded query grows significantly after adding more workqueues, eventually exceeding the server’s URL length limit and resulting in HTTP 414.

Expected Result

• Adding additional workqueues should not break workqueue loading.
• Workqueue APIs should avoid exceeding URL length limits.
• The UI should handle workqueue loading without JSON parsing errors.
• Behaviour should be consistent across environments.

Impact

• Users cannot access workqueues after login.
• Core workflows are blocked.
• The application becomes unusable in the server environment.
• This limits the ability to scale workqueues in country configurations.

To proceed, we would like guidance on:

1. Is there a recommended limit on the number or complexity of workqueues?
2. Is encoding large workqueue queries in a GET request expected behaviour?
3. Should the workqueue.count API be converted to POST or optimized?
4. Are there server-side constraints that need to be considered when adding more workqueues?
