Mobile - Course Content View

Abstract

This initiative involves renaming and reorganizing the Videos tab into a “Content” tab in the Open edX mobile app. This “Content” tab will contain several views of course content, including the full course outline. This allows for the main home page for each course to function more as a hub for learners, allowing them to see important updates, progress, and other necessary information relating to “what’s next.”

Goals

• By moving the course outline to a new “Content” tab, we will free up the course home to be a more functional hub for learners.
• By creating sub-views of course content (video pages, assignments), learners will be able to access course material that is most relevant to their learning objectives.

Key Use Cases

• As a learner I would like to be able to browse specific fractions of my course experience. (New Content View)
• As a learner I would like to understand what to do next in my course, how I am doing, and see any recent updates since I last learned on the mobile app. (Updates to Course Home)

Stage 1 - New Content Tab v1 (replacing Videos tab) All Content View (Figma Link)

Replace the ‘Videos’ tab within the Course experience with a ‘Content’ tab, enabling us to present both the full course experience and the videos only. This will be expanded in future stages.

Stage 2 - Updated Course Home Course Home (Figma Link)

Course home will now function as a hub for learners with information and CTAs related to what is next for overall course content, assignments, videos, as well as a grade progress tracker.

Full course outline/ content view will be moved to the Content tab.

Stage 3 - Add Assignment View to Content Tab Assignments View (Figma Link)

This view will list out the assignments that need to be completed for this course to be passed, and have other relevant visualizations to allow learners to track their progress towards completing necessary assignments. The progress visuals will be pulled from the Visual Course Progress initiative, found here: Visual Course Progress (Mobile)

Stage 4 - Improvements to Video Content Tab View Video View (Figma Link)

This view will show course video content in a more visually compelling manner.
