QField crashes on iPad (8th gen) - common issue?

I have been trying to use QField on my iPad, just because I have a personal iPad at home and thought of giving it some additional use. Fresh install of QField on iPad 8th generation running iPadOS 18.3.2. The QField project loads ok (albeit slowly) but any change of settings, selection of layer, or tapping a function crashes QField. The exact same QField project (58MB) runs smoothly without any issues on my iPhone 15. So I decided that my iPad 8th gen is not suited for QField. Anyone has a similar experience or may know what my issue is? Thanks
