Stripe sync billing address to open meter customer address

• I have searched the issue tracker for an issue that matches the one I want to file, without success.

Problem Description

When creating a checkout session that requires a billing address stripe customer is correctly storing the billing address but the open meter customer billing address is empty.

Proposed Solution

Maybe we should sync the stripe customer address -> open meter customer address over the same webhook channel.

Thanks for opening this. We were thinking about it recently but we couldn't decide how to resolve when Stripe has different customer data. Should OpenMeter overwrite Stripe customer address or the other way around or make the source of truth configurable. What's your expectation around it?

Another idea is to only sync Stripe customers that were created through OpenMeter.

Hey @hekike I think that the system of record for customers is open meter thus all changes from open meter should override stripe given that the customer exists in both places. I believe all customer update would flow through open meter and update into stripe after the fact. Mostly because stripe is being used as a merchant/gateway because you can support many merchants on the backend for payment capture the SOR for customer has to be openmeter. I do understand though that some of these flows are multistep. In my scenario the customer for both systems is created with stripe checkout. Stripe collects the billing address, payment etc.. Then at that open meter and stripe are out of sync stripe has more info about the customer than open meter. I don't know if I can get around this issue by creating the customer in open meter first or if I even should since the whole point of using stripe checkout is to remove the complexity of input capturing.

For now i am remediating the issue by doing stripe lookups after the checkout flow and updating open meter customers with stripe address data. But there are still data inconsistency issues with this that can occur after the fact.
