Description
What are you proposing?
OpenSearch core search is built around Apache Lucene. With the establishment of the new Search TAG under the TSC, it would be useful to bring together the Lucene-focused committers to discuss best ways to leverage Lucene innovation with OpenSearch, contribute upstream to Lucene where innovation best fits in the underlying layer, and increase the collaboration of the two communities.
This need has arisen among Lucene committers. @jainankitk has done great work funneling the interest, and can provide additional perspectives as Lucene Committer.
Working Group constructs are common in open source projects and foundations such as Kubernetes, the CNCF and the ASF to facilitate this sort of focused discussion, and it best fits under the new Search TAG.
What problems are you trying to solve?
create a technical advisory specialized forum to guides technical direction and decision-making on leveraging Lucene innovation with OpenSearch search, evaluate opportunities to contribute upstream to Lucene where specific capabilities/features best fit in the underlying layer, and increase the collaboration of the two communities.
What will it take to execute?
We advise creating a dedicated WG, which will have its own slack channel and monthly meetings.
