Currently using CentOS, which means that podman run will not work in container under OCP 4, as need newer kernel. See if can switch to Fedora. Need to ensure that podman build and podman run still work under OCP 3.11, where they currently work.

Have you considered switching to UBI vs Fedora?

RHEL, CentOS and UBI images are not viable options if you want to use a modern Python stack. They only provide Python 3.6, which was first released almost 3 years ago. There is no support for Python 3.7. Python 3.8 has also just been released and Python is going to move to a yearly release cadence for major updates meaning updates will be even more frequent. This is highly unlikely to change since RHEL 8 is not that old and an update to a newer major version of Python can't be done for its lifetime.

Things may have changed since, but when UBI first came out it also lacked packages equivalent to what was already being used for some things. Documentation on how to use third party package repositories was somewhat lacking and even then it wasn't clear if some of those existing package repositories were even usable with UBI images.

@dmc5179, @GrahamDumpleton Any movement on this? Quay is reporting vulnerabilities that are piling up, including upstream projects using this as the base.
