As part of our goal to engineer R packages to fill in gaps in the open-source statistical software landscape, we collect ideas and project proposals for public discussion.
16+
17+
The aim is to refine the idea into a concrete project, agree on requirements, and identify interested developers.

We have identified a gap in the R ecosystem for interval censoring analysis. A number of CRAN packages implement interval censoring methods, but none fully meets the requirements for our use case.
12+
13+
## Context
14+
15+
Considering time-to-disease progression, it is common that disease progression (such as tumour growth) is only measured at clinical visits, leading to interval-censored data, where the exact time of progression occured between the last "negative" and the first "positive" visit.
16+
17+
If the timing and frequency of visits are not equal across treatment groups, a naive analysis using standard survival analysis methods will lead to biased results. As such, we would like to apply interval censoring methods to analyze such data as a sensitivity analysis to the standard survival analysis. The sensitivity analysis should be as close to the standard survival analysis as possible, apart from the interval censoring aspect. Therefore we have the following requirements.
18+
19+
## Requirements
20+
21+
- Semi-parametric implementation
22+
- Support for stratified baseline hazard
23+
- Suitable performance for datasets with 1000s of observations
24+
- Suitable variance estimation
25+
- Supports data where all observations are interval or right censored.
