Until you look up, and realize, you pasted nothing.

Well, at least some warning should appear on the screen, e.g.,

We are sorry. The last CTRL+V paste command you did failed, perhaps because whatever you tried to do a Copy (CTRL+C) on previously failed. Or perhaps because you never did a Copy in this session in first place.

Anyway iD should say/warn something.
