Axle Maintainers: OWF + LFDT #77

Description

@SeanBohan

I wanted to reach out about the recent news on the Open Wallet Foundation. The OWF governing board voted to wind down the OWF foundation and have LF Decentralized Trust (LFDT) acquire the brand and associated assets.

While this will be a change at the foundation operational level, we aim to make as seamless a transition as possible for OpenWallet projects and maintainers. As you may be aware, we did something similar for Trust Over IO (ToIP) in late 2024, and those projects and contributors has had a very positive experience as part of LFDT.with the outcome. We are aiming for the same kind of outcome for OpenWallet.

What does this mean for your project?
Right now: no changes, keep going. We are drafting the transition plan now and will share more details soon.

Hart Montgomery (LFDT CTO) and I plan on doing two public meetups with the whole community next week (w/o Aug 24) to discuss any concerns or issues you may have and share ideas for future collaborations. The official announcement will happen at the GDC event the first of September. Before then, we want to make sure the community is informed, heard, and ready for the next steps, once the news is public.

Please let us know if you have any questions, thoughts, or comments. We would also welcome anything you think we should know or do to make this process successful for OpenWallet projects and contributors.
