GSoC 2026 questions

In recent weeks, several similar questions have been raised by new GSoC contributors, which has made it harder to keep discussions efficient and focused.

For this reason, I am creating this thread as a single place where newcomers can ask questions and clarify doubts. Any new threads on the same topics may be closed and redirected here.

Please follow these general guidelines to help keep collaboration smooth and productive:

• Review previous questions in this thread before posting, to avoid duplicates
• Join and follow the development chat
• Carefully read the contributing guidelines
• Carefully read our GSoC guidelines
• Start with small bug fixes, minor improvements, dependency updates, small features, eg:
  • WiFi-Login-Pages dependency maintenance
  • WiFi-Login-Pages unused dependencies
  • Work for improving our release process
  • Issues Listed in the Contributors' Board, especially the issues listed on top
• Avoid beginning with complex or large changes, as these often increase review and maintenance overhead rather than reducing it
• Before asking for review, make sure your pull request really resolves the issue and the automated test suite and QA checks pass
• Write messages in the chat genuinely by hand, avoid AI autogenerated texts as this comes across as fake and zero effort
• We're not looking just for pull requests, we're looking for active community members to join us and help us grow
• AI/agentic slop and unsolicited PRs will be closed without much explanation.
